got a best buy gift card this weekend from a holiday white elephant gift exchange. which i guess could be my kick in the ass to go by a memory card and start taking photos again.
not gonna lie though, the past 3 months sans camera has been pretty liberating, not only for my sense of responsibility to document everything, but also for a bit for self-esteem too I suspect.  a lot less going back and analyzing every outfit/ pose/ hairstyle/ omgdoesmyeyelinerlookthatbadwhenimwasted?!?!

but seeing how none of my friends are good at this (you always need one in the group amiright?) and i DO want to be able to look back on my life when i'm old and have amnesia and remember how much funner and prettier i was in my vapid 20's, i should get back on it.

...this ain't a promise though. next blog post may be in another 3 months, who knows.

been grooving

Photobucket
time's been flying... changes galore. new job. new apt aka the Real World loft. people in and out of the city... seeing old friends, making new ones.  oh right, and I lost my camera. haven't been doing too well with that thing this year.  (although for real, can I just have the memory card back??)
I've given up on regular blogging though, so I guess I can't really use that as a bitch-factor for no camera. womp womp.

love hate love hate

my job. new york city.
yet, bam! it's been one year already. ...not a huge chunk of time if you look at the long run, but kind of a huge chunk if you consider your life to be over at 35, which I suspect (hope) most 23 year old's think.
feel like I never have time to sit down and think about what I'm doing, where I'm going.
or maybe I have too much time, think too much, and am crippled by indecision.

either way, my life needs a new rhythm.
Photobucket
but then there's also those times where I pause for 2 seconds and realize that, as much as I bitch, my life -job, friends, city, is pretty damn amazing right now and I should quit being a little breezy.

oh isn't this speech sooooo scintillating?
stupid angst. it annoys me too.

...and here goes the downward spiral

What's trendier - designer fake tats or silly bandz?

two pieces I picked up at the Helmut Lang Gryphon Theory that suckered me in on my way home from work a few weeks ago. so ready for fall to kick in so I can get back to light knits, leather boots, and lose the mosquito bites.

also, so ready for Labor Day weekend to roll around so I can go to this. been listening to this nonstop and it gets me so pumped.

oh yea, also new -I finally painted my living room this past weekend. two months into my lease. but you're still proud of me, yes?
there's even a lamp now. next up, furniture...

has consisted of -
silly youtubes, wine and beer, street cart food, free hotdogs, house music, old friends, new friends, drunk texting, a new desk finally!, yachts, watskeburt, brunch food, tumblr, finally joining the rest of america and watched an episode of jersey shore. yuck.

oh yea, and east coast summer rain. I'm not a fan -please make it stop

swimming babies

Went down to King of Prussia yesterday for work -our first website photoshoot. It was fun being on set of the shoot, even though it was just for product shots, to organize it, coordinate things and have my opinion count. Everybody was super friendly (and SO chill. I was like, getting anxiety from having an actual sit-down lunch, hah) It's crazy how many people and how much time is needed for a photoshoot to run -especially since we were just getting started & had never worked with each other before. I can't imagine how long it would've taken doing the full deal -accessories, hair & makeup, a set more complicated than just a seamless backdrop... ah more anxiety. okay bedtime.

nothing to do with the above ramble, but here's a recent outfit --- the print on the skirt is what sold me -swimming babies with goggles and swim caps! winner.

double 07

Blogging really hasn't been on my radar lately (well obviously) reading blogs, writing entries, even taking photos, they've all kind of fallen to the wayside over the past month but I don't really mind... it's a nice change of pace. It's definitely been a busy past month though -moving into a new apartment, becoming a full time employee at work (huzzah!), friends visiting, visiting other friends. It's all kind of happened so quickly that if it weren't for the 100 degree NY weather, I've barely noticed we're already deep into summer. Once you're out of school for the first time your sense of timing and where you sort of 'fit' in the year is all thrown off. ..seems to make time fly a lot quicker.

Anyways, just some things I'm loving lately...
0707
summer fruits & two-toned nails
0707
thrifted shirt, F21 tank & shorts, necklaces from Taiwan & H&M, Jeffrey Campbell booties, shoulder bag: gift, iPod nano
wearing shorts without being (too) sloppy.
NOT summer sweat though.
0707
'self high-five machine' art display in Midtown (38th & 8th I think it was...)
0707
these psychadelic roses Betsey brought into the showroom last week from her florist -- how crazy cool are they??? she called them 'Roses on Acid'

happy double 07 day! harhar I'm so witty...

forever in transit

I've been living in transit for these 2+ weeks. Bouncing from NY to SF to NY to LA... and floating around Manhattan and New Jersey while I'm in between apartment leases right now. I've recently realized that I've literally never lived in any place longer than 8 months at a time for the past 5 years through college and summers abroad. By now I really should be much better at being a nomad but it's still such a huge (albeit regular) hassle -mostly a product of me wanting to travel all the time & being stingy I suppose. It's the little things that are the most annoying... I hate the fact that I had to bring my suitcase to work this morning because I have no where else to put it, I hate that I'm running out of underwear and since the rest is packed away for now I'll need to buy more?, mostly, I hate being an inconvenience to others as I couch surf from place to place.

As much as I wish I could be a free spirited wanderer to roam the world and fulfill my wanderlust, it really isn't me. I wish it was me... I'm good at packing light, I don't hoard or create nests wherever I go, but I do need to come home to a familiar bed, and in the very least, have my own private space to kick it with myself..
Photobucket

So there's my little rant & reflection.

Anyways, I have some yummy foodie photos from a delicious meal at the House in San Francisco from my short trip this past weekend. Of course, my camera cord is boxed away in an apartment I have no access to at the moment, so food porn will have to wait..

As much as I love being a "real" adult and being financially independent I still really really missing student life. Obviously... who doesn't? But more than the partying and the football games and invitationals, I really just miss feeling more alive in college (as cheesy as that sounds) -feeling like you're studying for some grand life purpose, living it up because you know college is just a fleeting four years, being able to take off from class and go on mini adventures whenever the mood struck or the weather was nice.
The catch to living in such an amazing city like New York is that you feel like you have all the time in the world to explore it and then regret wasting those hours being lazy or the nights you stayed in. I remember the weekend a year ago during my last semester in college when it struck me just how little time I had left at Cal and in the Bay Area. I freaked out for a bit and made a huge & overambitious bucket list -and actually ended up checking quite a few things off.
I need to make an NY bucket list.

ramble ramble

3rd straight day of rain so thought I could use some shiny shinies and my psychadelic print blouse. Oh yeah, and I got sick of my roots so I dyed my hair; decided that my nail polish was too green so I mixed some white in.
I really wish this room had some blank white wall, but it's colorful and messy and chaotic everywhere. Oh well. I never cared too much about sharing a room all though college but all of a sudden now all I want more than anything is my own space. and a nice fluffy pillow.discopants
Payless boots, Anthropologie blouse, AA disco pants

Anyways, I was writing my boyfriend an email earlier today (I know right? emails... how archaic we kickin' this old school, but it was actually kind of nice) and once I got myself going on all the writing I was actually able to spew out quite a lot. Ramblings unedited but it felt good to have the words and sentences flow out organically. I feel like I don't write enough here -maybe because I find it a chore to do so? Or because it's often a chore for me to read through paragraphs of stuff on other people's blogs -I'm such a visual person anyways... And then I never really know how much of my life I want to share. Sometimes my days are straight up so boring. no inspiration. so what's the point of writing about it?
But I also think, like anything, writing is a process, an exercise, and sometimes you need to force yourself into the habit or practicing. And it's my blog after all. I'm not writing articles or a column or anything here - you're totally welcome to skip over all this text, all time -shoot, I probably won't even read this over before I post... too tedious.

On another note -- I was reading pieces of the Happiness Project about a month back (because for whatever reason, I'm really attracted to self-help books... and entrepreneureal business books... aaaaaanywaysss) and she was talking about how she had to come to terms with herself and who she was. Stop trying to be the person she wanted to be (i.e. read random scholarly crap, listen to hipster music, have patience to cook interesting meals and know French) but just acknowledge who she actually was (read self-help books, listen to mainstream hyphy, watch food network and never actually cook cool things, and only know 'oui oui' in French). Path to happiness. Know who you are. But then again 'who you are' is always changing, no? ... and she is like this, middle aged wife & mother. about time you know who you are and stop fooling yourself. at least at 22 (I can still tell myself) I could change and make me who I want to be. maybe? ...I did enjoy the book though -some nice insights.

my friend was in town, work was busy, crappy weather so no outfit photos, blah blah blah... sometimes I think I'm just too lazy to blog... not sure if I should be feeling guilty about this? I don't want to turn this blog into a chore, but I also don't want it to die out and chalk it up as just another phase.

On another note, I love that New Yorkers love Empire State of Mind as much as the rest of the country.
