ramble ramble

3rd straight day of rain so thought I could use some shiny shinies and my psychadelic print blouse. Oh yeah, and I got sick of my roots so I dyed my hair; decided that my nail polish was too green so I mixed some white in.
I really wish this room had some blank white wall, but it's colorful and messy and chaotic everywhere. Oh well. I never cared too much about sharing a room all though college but all of a sudden now all I want more than anything is my own space. and a nice fluffy pillow.discopants
Payless boots, Anthropologie blouse, AA disco pants

Anyways, I was writing my boyfriend an email earlier today (I know right? emails... how archaic we kickin' this old school, but it was actually kind of nice) and once I got myself going on all the writing I was actually able to spew out quite a lot. Ramblings unedited but it felt good to have the words and sentences flow out organically. I feel like I don't write enough here -maybe because I find it a chore to do so? Or because it's often a chore for me to read through paragraphs of stuff on other people's blogs -I'm such a visual person anyways... And then I never really know how much of my life I want to share. Sometimes my days are straight up so boring. no inspiration. so what's the point of writing about it?
But I also think, like anything, writing is a process, an exercise, and sometimes you need to force yourself into the habit or practicing. And it's my blog after all. I'm not writing articles or a column or anything here - you're totally welcome to skip over all this text, all time -shoot, I probably won't even read this over before I post... too tedious.

On another note -- I was reading pieces of the Happiness Project about a month back (because for whatever reason, I'm really attracted to self-help books... and entrepreneureal business books... aaaaaanywaysss) and she was talking about how she had to come to terms with herself and who she was. Stop trying to be the person she wanted to be (i.e. read random scholarly crap, listen to hipster music, have patience to cook interesting meals and know French) but just acknowledge who she actually was (read self-help books, listen to mainstream hyphy, watch food network and never actually cook cool things, and only know 'oui oui' in French). Path to happiness. Know who you are. But then again 'who you are' is always changing, no? ... and she is like this, middle aged wife & mother. about time you know who you are and stop fooling yourself. at least at 22 (I can still tell myself) I could change and make me who I want to be. maybe? ...I did enjoy the book though -some nice insights.

dinner last Sunday at WD50 in LES. Japanese red rice ale, crispy sesame flakes and oolong tea, skirt steak with peanut pasta. fun subway mosaic mural. topshop leather jacket and comfy Uniqlo pants. digging for crap in my bigass purse.

It's a shame that I've been here for a little over 2 months and have barely begun to explore all the delicious food options around here -especially lamentable considering how, between the high restaurant turnover rate & the breadth of this immense city, I'll never ever even get close.
oh well. I at least ought to try more though... yes. more nomnoming. that's not a hard decision to make.

empanada mama

I know I haven't posted in a while but that's because the boy was visiting and we were off taking an entire slew of food porn photos that'll be coming your way soon!
empanada01

Anywho, this past Sunday was gorgeous here in NY... we headed over to Empanada Mama in Hells Kitchen for a late brunch and then spent the afternoon relaxing around Central Park.
Their empanadas have all sorts of interesting fillings - I don't remember what we ordered exactly, but they had everything from Italian sausage, to cheeseburger, spicy chicken, and (pictured left) one dubbed "viagra" (seafood).
Of course, we had to try that one... although it didn't quite live up to its name.

It's amazing how a few degrees of warmth and some sunshine can wake this city up from it's typical Sunday stupor... the park was full of kids running all over each other and musicians bustin' out songs - calming and peaceful but still so much energy everywhere (hah, if that makes sense..)

still alive, cannot apologize

thrifted cape, F21 grey dress and fence tights, Uniqlo cardi, Payless boots

Hi this is my cape. I thrifted it from Beacon's Closet a couple weekends ago. it's super warm and super bold - I stuck to mostly black this first time around but I'll play around with it.. it's missing a button, but small fix -that ain't no thang.

I'm really proud that I got off my lazy ass to take a (semi) real outfit photo. Although as you can see, I hardly bothered with my hair and makeup.

And I finally got around to downloading new songs like this one.

Aaaaaand lately I've been obsessed with dried cranberries - with my chocolate, in my cereal, on top of my salad.

Okay, this is getting pointless.
Bye!

my friend was in town, work was busy, crappy weather so no outfit photos, blah blah blah... sometimes I think I'm just too lazy to blog... not sure if I should be feeling guilty about this? I don't want to turn this blog into a chore, but I also don't want it to die out and chalk it up as just another phase.

On another note, I love that New Yorkers love Empire State of Mind as much as the rest of the country.

House of Organic

Through a family friend, I had the privilege to attend the House of Organic presentation of their Fall 2010 collection a couple weeks ago. The design collective presented outfits created a combined mix of their pieces from a handful of designers and artists who all carefully and fairly crafted their clothing out of organic and renewable materials.
I was struck by the simple sophistication of many of these items, in particular a classy but subtly quirky wool coat (unfortunately I didn't get a good photo) and these stunning yet delicate hand-painted pieces a la photos above.

Knowing that these pieces were carefully constructed, adjusted, and perfected individually (and for a large part, by hand) made me really miss this intimate, creative part of sewing and crafting. I've grown up oil painting, crocheting, and scrapbooking -all extremely hands-on activities, and while Photoshop is bomb diggs and all a lot of times it just doesn't feel intimate enough... I don't connect strongly with what I'm creating.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is I wish I could have hauled my sewing machine and painting easel across the country.
...oh well, I'll figure something out soon enough.
